STATE BOUND! Three Comets Rocket Past Sectionals.
St. Thomas will be well represented at the State golf tournament next week. Caleb Whitten, Evie Olson and Juliana Hudson all advanced after strong showings at their sectional competitions.
8th grader Caleb Whitten turned in a stellar round at Parkview Golf Course in Pekin on Wednesday. Whitten carded an 81, good enough for 6th place out of 72 golfers in the field. His performance not only secured him a spot in the State tournament, but also helped lead the Comets boys' team to a 4th place finish overall, making them the top parochial school in the sectional.
The girls’ sectional took place the following day at Madison Golf Course in Peoria, where 8th graders Evie Olson and Juliana Hudson both rose to the occasion. Olson shot a 109 early in the day to put herself in contention, while Hudson matched the score later in the afternoon. Hudson’s advancement came down to the wire, as she clinched her State berth on the final hole of the last round of the day.
The Comets will now turn their attention to the State final at Metamora Fields Golf Course. Olson and Hudson are set to compete in the girls’ tournament on Thursday, September 11, while Whitten will take the course for the boys’ tournament on Friday, September 12.
With three Comets advancing, St. Thomas proudly sends a talented group of golfers to State, carrying momentum and school spirit into the biggest competition of the season.
