Comets Hold Off Bruins to Win Season Opener at PND Showcase

PEORIA — The St. Thomas Comets 8th grade girls basketball team opened their season on a strong note Saturday, defeating Springfield Blessed Sacrament 20-15 in at the Peoria Notre Dame Showcase. 

The Comets jumped out to an early lead and weathered a late push from the Bruins to secure the win. Morghan James paced St. Thomas with 6 points while controlling the glass on both ends. Mazzy Parry added 5 points, Lexi Dinh chipped in 5, and Jo Campbell and Zoe Torres Ravelo each contributed 2 points to round out the scoring.

The victory sets the tone for the Comets as they look to build momentum to the start of their season. St. Thomas returns to action Monday in their home opener against Limestone-Walters Grade School. Tipoff of the 7th Grade game is scheduled for 5 p.m. with the 8th graders taking the court at 6 p.m.
